2010 - Week 7 Winners

It was a case of so close and yet so far this week for Golf Predictor. Our second ranked golfer won in the US while our top ranked golfer in Europe lost in a playoff at the third extra hole.

Steve Stricker (ranked 2nd by Golf Predictor) continued his great start to the 2010 US PGA Tour season by winning the Northern Trust Open. The American backed up top ten finishes in his first two events this season with a win at the Riviera Country Club. Stricker looked to be running away with the tournament after 3 rounds, but Luke Donald (ranked 12) put it up to him and cut his six shot lead to two at the finish. Our top ranked player, Phil Mickelson, finished poorly again and ended up in tied 45th place. Overall, in an event where the big/form players just didn't perform, we had three of the top ten plus ties (3/14). I believe this marks our worst ever performance, as Ernie Els aside, journeymen and lesser lights completed the top fourteen. If Stricker hadn't won, it would have been a great week for the bookies!

On the European PGA Tour,
Miguel Angel Jimenez (ranked 24th by Golf Predictor) won the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in a thrilling tussle with Lee Westwood (ranked 1st). Westwood drew level with a birdie at the last in regulation, but the Spaniard wasn't to be denied. Jimenez managed to stay in the hunt for the first two extra holes as Westwood spurned chances at both. However, Jimenez prevailing at the next. Unlike the American event this week, most of the bigger names/form golfers produced the goods and we had eight of the top eleven plus ties (8/14) i
n total.
